This painting was a fun experiment in impulse for me - I improvised and allowed my impulse and my palette knife to throw, spread and guide paint as I saw fit on a smooth canvas that I covered with an untextured layer of paint first. I joyfully let go and painted this canvas in a horizontal orientation. Once done, I flipped it and looked at the image from all angles, until I realised I had painted something I did not intend to - a blue head, with white hair, smoking a black pipe. the impulse unknowingly made this image and I was thrilled. ...
There’s a spark (energy, imagination, idealism) that children possess that we often become conditioned out of, almost pressured away from as we get older. This piece stems from thoughts about the complexities of that imagination. Our mind is more complex than we can probably ever understand - It May just be worth it to unfocus and see our experience from a fresh, liberated perspective - a birds eye view - a deeply individual idea of what child-like wonder, and liberated playfulness looks like. We all deserve that joy and I hope you dance in it for yourself and others...
The first painting of my 2021. My main focus was Movement - Depicting it but also making it a (sweeping) fundamental part of the process of creation. I lined up colours I envisioned along my palette knife (twice, two sweeps) and really felt and exaggerated the upward motion I used to make this. Bent at the knees, allowing my pelvis and back to guide my arm in an upward joyous SWEEP!...
